SOUTH/CENTRAL SUPER LEAGUE

2008/2009

The South/Central Super League is a house league encompassing several minor hockey associations within the South/Central Okanagan.

The minor hockey associations participating are: Merritt, Penticton, Princeton, South Okanagan, Summerland, and Westside. These associations will participate with teams in various divisions.

A committee formed with a representative from each participating association will govern the South/Central Super League. The committee will elect yearly someone to act as director of the league rotating associations every two years. The SUPER LEAGUE DIRECTOR WILL DEAL DIRECTLY WITH THE ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVE AND NOT INDIVIDUAL TEAMS, COACHES, PARENTS, ETC., due to the large number of teams participating.

The league will consist of Atom. Peewee, Bantam, and Midget Divisions, playing an unbalanced league schedule, with a play-off at the end of the season. All divisions within the Super League shall remain non-contact.

Banners will be presented to the A & B side winner of each division at the end of play-offs. Associations with teams in a division will share the cost of the banners. The cost of the banners will be divided by the number of teams in a division.

****  Associations entering more than one team into the South/Central Super League will field teams of EQUAL CALIBER. Associations entering only some of their teams from a division into the League must first form teams of equal caliber in that division, and then appoint a team to participate in the League.

The League schedule will be approximately 16 games per team, but will vary depending on each teams quantity of home ice. (Thus this will be an unbalanced league.)

League standings will be kept, and rankings of teams for play-offs will be done on a percentage basis. (Total points achieved versus total points a team could have earned.) Teams with higher percentage will receive an advantage in the first round and in the A & B finals, provided they have the appropriate ice slot. Wherever possible, the higher ranked team will have home ice during all rounds of the play-offs.

League standings as provided to play-off coordinator by standings recorder after the last weekend of league play will be FINAL!!!  It is very important that scores get reported on time!

All teams will participate in play-offs until receiving two losses. (Except the team losing A finals.)  Example copy of play-off format included as part of South/Central League Manual. The “A” final will be a best of three game series.

Play-off ice times submitted to coordinator must be consistent with league ice times.

***** The first three weekends of playoffs will NOT be open for teams to play in tournaments and continue in playoffs. Playoffs for the 2008/2009 season will start Feb 7, 2009

Final Standings:

Percentage basis: If a tie results, then the game results between the tied teams will be used as a tie breaker. If still tied, then it will go to GF/GA for games played between the tied teams only.

The league director will monitor score sheets and try to assure that players and team officials who receive penalties, serve those penalties as per the rules. If an infraction occurs, the association will be notified and expected to take appropriate action. Match and gross misconducts will be as per BCAHA / CHA policy. The Super League Director will NOT issue suspensions of players and /or coaches, as OMAHA and BCAHA have people and procedures in place that handle these issues.

REVISED: Any player having received three penalties of any nature in a game will be ejected from the game upon being assessed a fourth penalty of any nature in that same game.

TEAM PROCEDURES:

1.                 A team will consist of a minimum of 10 players and one goaltender.  If for

any reason the team numbers fall below that, a player maybe picked up from a junior division team, (within their own Super League Association.)  Goaltenders may be replaced by one from the same division in Super League. All players picked up from a game must be identified on the score sheet by the initials A.P. (Affiliate Player). Approval to pick up players must be received from team’s own representative or league director. League Director must be notified of all roster changes via e-mail.

2.                 Overage Players: Associations will be Responsible to make sure that

overage players are divided up equally according to the number of House teams within their association.

Teams with overage players will identify players on the team roster and score sheet with an O.A. (overage). No more than two overage players will be allowed on the ice at one time.  Having more than two overage players on the ice at one time will result in an unsportsman -like penalty. This policy must be communicated to the head referee in each association, yet policed by coaches.

3.       Teams must play all games as per the master schedules. (League and Play-Off).  Non-appearance will result in a $100.00 fine, payable by the offending teams association to non -offending teams association. League Director will mediate any disputes.
