Role of the Safety Person -The role of the Safety Person is not to diagnose or provide a medical solution. The role is to recognize when someone may be hurt or altered and then direct them to a healthcare provider who can provide further assessment. If you are ever in doubt, the best thing to do is be cautious and keep the player off the ice and have them assessed by a healthcare provider.
Concussion – It is not your responsibility to diagnose a concussion. This should be done by a healthcare provider in a clinic or the Emergency Room. The player's return to hockey will also be guided by the healthcare provider. However, it is helpful for you to be familiar with some of the signs of concussion, so that you can direct a player to seek further assessment. Refer to the following documents.
3. Medical Forms – Every player should have filled out a medical form, and these should be in the coaches’ bag for every game. At the end of the season, these medical forms must be shreeded.
4. Injuries – If any player is injured, there is an injury sheet that needs to be filled out by the Safety Person. Please scan the document and email to the address at the bottom of the page (INFO@BCHOCKEY.NET).
5. Training- All safety personnel must complete the online training program. Please contact the SMHA Head Coach for refund of cost.
