Sam Hanon Memorial Tournament
Sam Hanon was a defenseman with the Summerland Midget Rep Jets, in his Grade 12 year at Summerland Secondary School.
He passed away on the morning of December 9, 2007 on his way to a home game.
Sam was a very popular member of the Grade 12 graduating class, and an extremely well-liked person with his
teammates and coaches alike.
He was known for his strong character, good values and loyalty, and above all for his infectious smile.
He was a top student and a dedicated hockey player who loved the sport.
Since 2008, in Sam's honour, the top U18/association tournament has been known as the Sam Hanon Memorial Tournament.
Funds for the name plate on the trophy bearing Sam's name were raised by the Midget Girls hockey team at their tournament held in 2008.
Each year the team that wins the tournament gets a 'take home' trophy to take back to their home association.
The main trophy, along with Sam's #13 jersey and skates remain in the Summerland arena as a tribute
to the legacy of this all around great friend, teammate, and member of Summerland Minor Hockey.
